Blending the Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie
This simple and delicious summer drink recipe is so easy to make it only takes a total of 5 minutes.
Let’s start by washing and hulling the fresh strawberries. If you are using frozen, then you can skip this step. I add them directly into the blender jug as I hull them.
Now we are ready to build our summer drink recipe.
- Add the milk of choice to the blender along with the strawberries.
- Add the cream cheese to the blender.
- Blend it all together so you have a thick gooey mess.
- Now we can add the protein powder. I like to add the powder after so it doesn’t stick to the sides. Once we have a liquid consistency, it’s easier to add protein. Blend again so you have a thick strawberry smoothie.
- Add a couple of pieces of ice and blend again – this helps the fresh fruit smoothie get colder and a little more creamy.
- You can also add the chia seeds to the blender or leave them out for now. I like to add them after I have finished blending, and just mix them in with a spoon.
Serving Suggestions
I like to serve mine right away, but if you don’t have time to make it and drink it right away, you can make it ahead and drink it later. If you do this, skip adding the ice. Place it in an air tight container if possible and place it in the fridge. When ready to consume, add some ice and enjoy it cold. Remember to shake it well before you drink.
Fresh vs Frozen Berries
I have often been asked why I use fresh berries instead of frozen berries. My answer is simple. Use whatever kind you have available to make your strawberry smoothie recipe. This smoothie is very versatile. If I am using fresh, then I like to add some ice to the blender. When using frozen straberries, I let them thaw out a little bit so they can be easily blended.
How do I Freeze Fresh Strawberries?
During the strawberry season, we go berry picking and often end up with too many to use right away. I make a lot of this fresh fruit smoothie recipe with them, but I also tend to freeze them from time to time when I don’t have time to use them all.
- To freeze them and ensure that they don’t stick to each other when you want to use them, I wash and hull them.
- Then arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet and let them sit in the freezer for about an hour.
- Once they have started to freeze, I transfer them into individual containers so I can use them as needed.
Milk Options and Choices
Although I usually make my fresh fruit smoothie with cows milk, I have enjoyed it with other non-dairy milk such as:
- Oat milk – this gives it a little bit of an oat breakfast like taste.
- Cashew nut milk – this is a much lighter milk than dairy, but it’s got a much creamier consistency when blended in with the strawberries.
- Coconut milk – I love to add a couple of tablespoons of coconut milk to the smoothie from time to time. This completely alters the flavour and gives it a real tropical taste.
I love making summer drinks from fresh berries and this versatile recipe has to be one that will become your favourite too. Alter it to your liking and try it in as many different ways as you can.
