The Wet Ingredients

Let’s start by getting the wet ingredients going.

  • Put 1 cup of softened cream cheese, 1 cup of softened unsalted butter, and 1 cup of sugar into a large mixing bowl. I use a stand mixer to make my dough.
  • Whip the three ingredients together till you have a smooth consistency. It takes about 5 minutes to whip the butter so it’s soft and fluffy.
  • Add 2 whole eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the bowl and mix for another 2 minutes. This allows the eggs to get whipped properly, and it ensures a soft crinkle cookie in the end.

The Dry Ingredients

Now we can get the dry ingredients together.

  • Sift together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a small bowl.
  • Also, sift 1/3 cup of cocoa powder in a separate bowl. It’s important to sift the cocoa powder so there are no lumps. You can always sift the flour and cocoa powder together.
  • Add everything to the bowl with the butter mix.
  • Mix the wet and dry ingredients to form a cookie dough. The cookie dough will be rather cake-like instead of cookie dough-like.

Coating the Cookies

How is the crinkle on the cookies formed? Let’s get the cookies ready to get crinkly.

  • Sift 1/4 cup of icing sugar onto a plate. Sifting the icing sugar is also crucial to get rid of the lumps.
  • Form 30 cookies and place them onto the dish containing the icing sugar – one at a time. Roll each of the cookies into the icing sugar so they get coated. This is what will give the crinkle cookies the crinkle on them.
